WHAT ARE THE CATEGORIES FOR REGIONALS, AND NATIONALS?
Ballet Demi-Pointe/Pointe (Classical/Demi-Character), Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Street Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Breakdance, Theatre Dance (no singing), Musical Theatre (singing), Acro/Cheer & Dance, Folkloric, Variety of Styles, and Improv.



WHAT ARE THE AGE DIVISIONS FOR REGIONALS, AND NATIONALS?
6 & Under, 7 - 9, 10 - 12; 13 - 15; 16 - 19; 20 - 29; 30+. Age divisions may be combined or divided based on entries. For example, if there is 1 ballet soloist aged 5, and another aged 7, they will be combined. If there are 22 lyrical solos in the 13-15 age division, the solos will be divided into 3 age groups (13 - 14 - 15). Our objective is to give each dancer fair and reasonable competition.



WHEN AND HOW DO WE HAND IN THE MUSIC?
Please upload all of your routines on 1 USB key. All routines must be labelled by the routine number & title i.e. (1 - NEWSIES) or (23 - JENNIFER SMITH). We will collect all the USB keys during the convention or before the competition to create 1 perfect playlist - just a reminder no CDs. See the backstage manager as soon as you arrive.



WHEN AND HOW IS THE AGE DETERMINED FOR REGIONALS, AND NATIONALS?
Birth dates are required for all dancers on the online form. Once names and birth dates are entered online, they are stored for future years. The online system will calculate ages based on the dancers age July 1 of each year. Ages are averaged for duos, trios, groups.



ARE THERE ABILITY LEVELS WITHIN EACH AGE GROUP FOR REGIONALS, AND NATIONALS?
YES. Ability level is based on years of dance training from age 5 until Sept 2016. Ability level is based on the most advanced dancer in duos, trios, groups. Dancers with 6 or more years of training are Senior (started dance classes Sept 2010 or earlier). Dancer with 3-5 years of training is Junior (started Sept 2011 to 2013). Dancer with 1-2 years of training is Novice (started Sept 2014 to 2016). Levels are NOT based on years of competitive training. A dancer is at one level for all categories (6 years of hip hop, 2 years of tap is a SENIOR).



WHAT ARE THE TIME LIMITS FOR REGIONALS AND NATIONALS?
Solos 3 minutes; Duos/Trios 3.5 minutes; Groups 5 minutes; Production 5-10 minutes (minimum 20 dancers; theme, sets or props). No minimum time limit with the exception of production. There will be a $50 charge for routines over time limit.



WHO AND HOW IS THE JUDGING AND WHAT ARE THE AWARDS?
Online video judging is provided by a panel of 3 faculty. Critiques, and HD video are uploaded on the internet for each studio owner to download with their code. Choreography (30%), Technique (30%), Performance (30%), Overall Appearance (10%) are scored for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. Crystal medals will be awarded to each dancer for solos, and duo/trios. Crystal trophies will be awarded for each group with crystal medals for each dancer. We also award cash based on diversity of training with a total of $1,700,780.00 presented since 1994.



IS THERE A CONVENTION OFFERED AT REGIONALS AND NATIONALS?
YES, a regional convention is offered for $170 ($150 for 20 or more dancers registered). Competition fees for dancers registered for the convention are lower - $45 solos, $25/person duo/trios, $19/person groups. Studios register online for the convention first; then they register for the competition for lower competition fees. National Dancers of the Year must register for the National/DWC Package for $400 which includes Convention, 3-piece DWC outfit, and Tour (total value of $575).



WHAT CONVENTION CLASSES ARE OFFERED AT REGIONALS AND NATIONALS?
Three faculty will offer classes in 2 ballrooms for 12 & Under and 13 & Up dancers. If there are less than 15 dancers in 12 & Under, classes may be combined with 13 & Up. Classes are limited to a maximum of 90 dancers for each age group. Classes include Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Theatre Dance plus specialty classes. Classes are normally scheduled Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Convention does not conflict with competition. There are normally 6 faculty at the Nationals/DWC.



IS THERE A FACULTY SHOWCASE OR ANY OTHER FEATURE AT YOUR EVENTS?
YES, we have a faculty showcase, dance party, and impromptu dancing before awardson Saturday evening. We offer a full-day Tour at Nationals (details will follow). We are the only competition that travels across Canada with representation from all provinces at Nationals. We travel with our Rosco Adagio touring floor 31.5 x 50 ft, and staging 40 x 60 at Nationals and Dance World Cup.
